What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of increasing both the quality and quantity of website traffic, as well as exposure to your brand, through non-paid (also known as “organic”) search engine results.

SEO is about understanding what people are searching for online, the answers they are seeking, the words they’re using, and the type of content they wish to consume. Knowing the answers to these questions will allow you to connect to the people who are searching online for the solutions you offer.

Apart from knowing your audience’s intent, it is also important to deliver content in a way that search engine crawlers can find and understand it.

How to improve SEO for online stores

Follow these SEO practices to get more exposure in search engines:

  • Store URLs should be short, meaningful, and clean from hashes and other parameters like “?”, “&” and “=”.
  • Add custom meta tags to product pages (page title and meta description)
  • Add keywords to product names and descriptions
  • Collect customer reviews — they can provide relevant keywords and backlinks to your store
  • Verify your site ownership in Google Search Console, create a sitemap for your store pages, and then submit the sitemap to Google
  • Share products on social media pages
  • Build backlinks. For example, create your blog, write guest posts for other blogs, partner with bloggers so that they write you a review.
