What is mobile commerce?

Mobile commerce, or m-commerce, refers to buying and selling of products and services through mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

M-commerce allows customers to access online shopping platforms without needing to use a desktop computer.

Examples of m-commerce include in-app purchasing, mobile banking, virtual marketplace apps, and digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay.

Benefits of mobile commerce:

  • customers can make purchases at any time, anywhere
  • mobile payment options like Apple Pay make purchases more convenient
  • businesses can leverage in-app push notifications to reach customers in real-time

Limitations of mobile commerce:

  • customers are easily distracted by notifications, reminders, emails, etc.
  • businesses have to make sure their websites are mobile-optimized and apps are user friendly
