Step One — create/select your Google account

First and foremost, you’ll need to determine which Google account you’d like to use for your certification. If you currently work for a company, chances are you’ll be using the account associated with your work email.

If you want to do the certification process on your own, you’ll need to choose an account you’d like to have your certification tied to publicly. It all depends on whether you want to have the certification linked to your personal account or company.

Step Two — Get the ball rolling in Skillshop

Once you’ve selected which Google account you’d like to use, you’ll want to log out of your other accounts. As with other Google products, there can be login challenges or confusion when you’re logged in to multiple accounts. Once you have that all squared away, you’ll want to go to Skillshop and pick your desired certification.

Once you’re ready to get started, click on the Get Started button. You’ll be presented with a terms of service agreement and an option of sharing your account certification status with your company. If you’re not affiliated with any company, you can simply select no when asked to share.

Step Three — get ready for your exams

Google provides general educational info as well as more involved training content. Specific Google Ads certifications include Apps, Display, Measurement, Search, Shopping, and Video. There is specific training content tied to each certification type. When you click on any of them, you’ll be given options to get started, including a quick knowledge assessment along with other resources.

Step Four — pass your assessment

To receive a Google Ads certification and become a specialist, you must pass your assessment for your selected certification course. Once you pass, your certification will be awarded for the specific focus area that you chose. You aren’t required to take every specialization.
