How Do I Become a Google Ads Specialist?
Becoming a Google Ads specialist relies on getting a Google Ads certification. We will cover each and every step in the process in order to help you become a marketing guru.
However, as many are aware, skills are perfected by doing. The work doesn’t end once you have your certification. Be sure to always research what’s trending in the digital marketing landscape and ensure that you utilize your resources. By keeping up with trends, you can take your certification to the next level.
That being said, here are the steps you need to take to become a marketing expert and get your Google Ads certification.
Step One — create/select your Google account
First and foremost, you’ll need to determine which Google account you’d like to use for your certification. If you currently work for a company, chances are you’ll be using the account associated with your work email.
If you want to do the certification process on your own, you’ll need to choose an account you’d like to have your certification tied to publicly. It all depends on whether you want to have the certification linked to your personal account or company.
Step Two — Get the ball rolling in Skillshop
Once you’ve selected which Google account you’d like to use, you’ll want to log out of your other accounts. As with other Google products, there can be login challenges or confusion when you’re logged in to multiple accounts. Once you have that all squared away, you’ll want to go to Skillshop and pick your desired certification.
Once you’re ready to get started, click on the Get Started button. You’ll be presented with a terms of service agreement and an option of sharing your account certification status with your company. If you’re not affiliated with any company, you can simply select no when asked to share.
Step Three — get ready for your exams
Google provides general educational info as well as more involved training content. Specific Google Ads certifications include Apps, Display, Measurement, Search, Shopping, and Video. There is specific training content tied to each certification type. When you click on any of them, you’ll be given options to get started, including a quick knowledge assessment along with other resources.
You’ll want to select Search, at least at first. Search is the most common type of ad that businesses will run. You should plan on investing a few hours to go through the specific training content.
Unless you have exemplary knowledge in Google Ads and SEO, do not skip the training content! The study guides are meant to help ensure that you pass your assessment.
Step Four — pass your assessment
To receive a Google Ads certification and become a specialist, you must pass your assessment for your selected certification course. Once you pass, your certification will be awarded for the specific focus area that you chose. You aren’t required to take every specialization.
However, the more certifications you earn, the more proficient you will be with Google Ads. Plus, you can add more to your skillset! Note that if you do not pass your exam, there is a short waiting period before you can retry. This is the only real drawback to not passing.
So be sure to study all of the content before taking your exam!
Step Five — connect with Google Partners
Although this step is optional, you can connect your individual Google account with your company for credit toward Google Partners. You can always skip over or decline this step, but you will miss out on some of the added benefits of validation.
Take Advantage of Your Momentum
That’s all, folks!
Granted, you will have to devote time and effort to become a Google Ads specialist. But the results are worth it!
