Edit Shipping Location Dropdowns?

I am using FedEx - Carrier Calculated Method for shipping. I want to edit the TWO (2) drop down lists available for shipping locations during checkout process:

1. Drop down list at first Your Shopping Bag page

2. Drop down list at Shipping Details page

3. I think it is possible to get the message "Sorry, we do not ship to this location" when using User Defined Shipping Method. I need to use Carrier Calculated Method and still limit shipping location choice to US only and a select few states.

Thank you,
John

Maria,

Thank you for the quick reply. Not being able to limit shipping location drop down lists using Carrier Calculated Method is very disappointing.

In utilizing a gateway, such as PayPal, customers can place an order even though our business cannot ship to their location. Our business must manually reject order, refund money back to customer from PayPal, and then pay for the PayPal gateway transaction fee. This results in a 2.9% of sale + $0.30 per transaction loss in money.

Loss of money (which may not seem like much to you) plus disgruntle customers is not a good solution.

John, I can totally understand you. We had so many requests to allow the limits on the carrier calculated methods, that we decided to implement it. The whole shipping configuration interface in Ecwid is currently being reworked, and it will among other cool things allow merchants to limit the carrier calculated methods to a particular area. We plan to deliver it to all Ecwid users in the first quarter of 2012.

However, is there any particular reason why you cannot ship an order to a particular state, whereas FedEx provides a rate for that order and destination? Is it a law or something? Maybe we should take into account something else?

Eugene,

Yes, there are state laws which prohibit shipment of wine across states. FedEx is setup generically, not specific to wine.

John, thank you for the information. The new way to setup shipping rates in Ecwid is being currently worked on, it will allow to limit even the carrier calculated methods to your custom zones, so it will be possible to limit the cross-state shipping for your orders. This change will be released with one of the upcoming Ecwid versions.
