Can horizontal subcategories be displayed by default ?

Can the Categories Tabs Widget Code be modified to display both root categories and subcategories? I would like to display all horizontal tabs but without the Product Browser embedded.

The categories tabs widget (aka horizontal categories menu) can display the top level categories of your store as the tabs and the first level of subcategories for the currently open root category.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to customize that widget so that it would display all the subcategories (mostly because a way to display a very developed category tree is overall quite questionable), and moreover, the categories menu will not display the subcategories, if there is no product browser on the page.

However, you can easily build your own menu by using the links to the particular categories inside your store and your preferred way to present them. If you use any kind of CMS on your site, most of them provides a way to create your own custom menou that integrates natively with the template you use. Otherwise you can build a simple category tree with some HTML coding (like this one: http://www.htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/ ) or a ready made menu script, many of can be found and used for free. You can also grab the category structure in your shop by the means of Product API and use it to build the category links and then present them with one of the aforementioned ways.

If I understand, it is possible to display the first two levels even if the product browser widget is not present? I have only 2 levels of categories.

I have embedded this code:
<div><script type="text/javascript" src="http://app.ecwid.com/script.js?561045" charset="utf-8"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> xCategories("style="); </script></div>

but only the top level categories are initially displayed. Is there a way to also display the second level of categories for a designated root category - without the product browser installed ? Thank you for your patience.
