Speed Issues

I have two emails this week from customers saying the store is loading too slowly to use properly and that they won't be shopping with us any more.

I have run speed tests and there isn't anything wrong in principle, but when loading on my Android tablet, the ECWID content takes a long time to load.

Please could you take a look and tell me why it has suddenly got worse and what can be done to fix it?

Edited to add...

If you do a Cross-Browser compatibility test, only 4 out of 15 load content, 7 show the ECWID loader bar and 3 don't even load at all!

Reduce the amount of products that you have loading on a page. I just ran the same test on my store and passed everything.

Thanks - how many do you display at a time?

Presumably you would say the same for categories?

Yes this goes for the categories too. I load 9 items per page.

Thanks, John.

The functionality where scrolling down loads more products would be good in this context.

I wonder if they will look at this?

Hello,

I am so sorry to learn that you faced this issue.

I inspected your store closely on my Android device. I found out that it loads a bit slowly indeed. It took approximately 17 seconds to load the following store page for the first time http://www.elephantinmyhandbag.com/a...=addedTimeDesc

In order to improve the performance of your online store, please, use the solution suggested by John R Perry.

Since Ecwid is an AJAX application, the content of the whole store page is delivered to a visitor by means of Javascript. As I can see, you setup product catalog to display 40 products per page. So, before the products appear on the store page, Ecwid loads the images, titles, prices and other information about all these products in the background. Please, try to reduce the number of products per page and let us know how this approach works for you. You can do it in the advanced settings of Ecwid product browser widget. Please, refer to this article for more detailed information: http://help.ecwid.com/customer/porta...vancedSettings

Also, please send the name and version of the Android device that you use for testing.

I'm afraid, it is not possible to configure your Ecwid catalog to load products while scrolling down the page by means of built-in functionality. Yet, you can achieve this with the help of custom programming. You should create a script, that grabs the product information from Ecwid servers and generates custom product listing page on your site. This script should receive necessary information via Ecwid API. Such development requires certain programming skills though. You can create a script yourself or hire a professional developer. I suggest contacting our friends from Qualiteam (http://www.qtmsoft.com/). Send your request to sales@qtmsoft.com for quote.

P.S. I noticed that you inserted your Ecwid Starter Site http://elephantinmyhandbag.ecwid.com/ on the "Mobile Site" page http://www.elephantinmyhandbag.com/m.index0.html The starter site functions within an iframe element, it is the whole site that works inside another website. In this case the loading time of the store page increases, since two websites load one by one.

We do not recommend embedding your starter site into another website. It's better to link direct URL address of your Ecwid starter site to the "Mobile Site" button. Ecwid starter site is fully optimized for mobile devices: it loads fast and automatically adapts to any screen width.

In case you have other concerns, feel free to write me back. I'll be glad to help you.

Default Load speed

I have been thinking of setting up an Ecwid Store so I am going through the forums to see what problems exist. I learned my Lesson with Etsy and will never do Business with them again. I hope you don't mind me asking but have you made the suggested changes? If so have you had anymore complaints from Customers accessing your site?? I loaded the following page from your site for the first time, http://www.elephantinmyhandbag.com/a...=addedTimeDesc
It took 18.68 seconds to complete. I just checked my DL speed which is currently 36.92Mbps

It certainly seems alot faster from my testing and much more "normal".

Your load speed of 18.68 seconds seems very slow given your DL speed, though - what tech are you using, so I can check compataibility?

Wendy @ECWID

Given JHardy's speed number, would you mind taking a look again now I have made the suggested changes?
