need help with category selection on shop

Hi friends, I need some help urgently. I have a few categories on my online shop, is it possible to show only a few categories on each page? for example I have 6 categories but on a certain page i want to show only three and on another page I want to show 4 of them. At the moment I see options for either showing 1 category or all. Please let me know if you know how to do that.
