How to show PRODUCT ITEMS and not CATEGORIES thumbnails in home page

Hi, my page by default has CATEGORIES tab on the top, and then another set of CATEGORIES thumbnail on the home page.
midnightseamstress.ecwid.com

I like to remain the CATEGORIES tab but find the repetitive thumbnails redundant. Can I show PRODUCT ITEMS thumbnails instead? I want it to automatically add the items to the home page everytime I add something new.

I do not have specific items that I want to feature on the home page, so I don't want to change the CSS to identify which item to show on the home page. I just want ALL PRODUCT ITEMS to show on the home page.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for your message!

As far as I understand, you want to show your products on the main page of your store and to have categories tabs on the top of it.

Generally, the first page of your store displays the products that are not assigned to any of your categories, i.e. they are listed in the “Store” category (see the screenshot http://take.ms/YYgDC). The products listed in the “Store” category cannot belong to any other category simultaneously. At the same time, the products that are assigned to other categories, can be listed in two (sub-)categories, only “Store” category does not allow it.

So, you can create a new root category, place all your products there (they will be listed in their current categories as well) and make this new category a default one, which means that it will be shown on the main page of your store, i.e. the main page of your store will display both Categories thumbnails and Products thumbnails. Please see the detailed information on adding a default category in our article on the matter:

Please note that the default category cannot be changed from “Store” to a custom one if you are using Starter site, as to add it you need to have access to the source code of your site.

Dear Clara,

Thank you for the reply. In short, if I am using a Starter Site without paying, I cannot alter to what I am trying to achieve, am I right? Because I cannot set another category as the default category to show on the main page. Another alternative is to remove all categories, and just put the product as it is, correct?

Hello,

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Yes, you are absolutely right. You can remove all the categories and make your products unassigned to any category. This way your store page will show just the products and no categories.

As for the showing another default category (instead the “Store” one), you can do it on a free plan as well - you just need to create your own site (alongside with the Starter site) and embed your Ecwid store there. This way you will have access to the source code of your pages and will be able to make all the necessary modifications.
