This way buyers would be able to pay shipping costs at checkout.
Is it possible?
Or my only option is to open an account with one of the Ecwid-supported couriers.

Hello Rachele!
At present Ecwid is integrated with several carrier companies that you can use to receive shipping rates automatically: UPS, USPS, FedEx, Australia Post, EMS Russian Post, Canada Post, Brasil Correios. DHL isn’t supported yet, and it is not possible to integrate real-time shipping rates calculation from it to your store.
Still you can emulate these rates in Ecwid store using Custom table shipping calculation type. This approach allows to create your own rates base on order weight or subtotal, quantity of items ordered. It also enables you to emulate the rates of the shipping company which you want to use for delivery (DHL in your case). So on the checkout your customers will get the rates you need and after that you will ship the items to them using the carrier you need. Please, refer to this article for details about custom table calculation type: http://help.ecwid.com/customer/porta...ng#Customtable
Please, let me know if you have any other questions and I will be happy to help.
