I found these 2 codes one of my files and am not sure what they are for. Anyone throw any light on their purpose.

Hello Peter.

I can assume that
  1. It is the name of CSS class of one of the item, in the product option.
  2. It is CSS rule for the store link and breadcrumbs separator.

Therefore, you can easily check what the CSS style name is responsible for. It is described in this part of the article:
