make available free version of downloads to select people

Is there a way to make available a free version of secure download links to select people (e.g. press review of music album downloaded as zip of MP3s)?

The files would be the same files that are sold in the store, but, made available to special people at no charge.

Would this be handled by some kind of discount code which yields an intangible e-goods sale at $0?

Would they still need to go through the whole "fill out the form and go to PayPal" process?

Ideally this process needs to be as hassle-free as possible such that a reviewer will actually act on the request. So tips on how to achieve that are greatly appreciated.

The easiest and best way to implement this is to use your site`s pages. Create a new site page with necessary links. Make this page hidden and for example password protected.

Thanks Eugene. I thought about something like that. I was hoping to control this within ecwid so I could track who accessed what.

Is there a WP plugin available to do this? To be clear; the requirements would be as follows:

- Add list of names with unique usernames and passwords into system
- Password protect page with content
- User accesses URL and enters their unique username/password to access content
- User access is timestamped and viewable by admin
- Admin receives an email when user logs in to protected area

Thanks for advice on this.

Bill

Bill,

Well, I think WordPress has plugins for anything.

Do you mean that only logged-in users from a special group should access it?

Yes, only special users (e.g. those who have received un/pw) will have access. Anyway, I've been looking at various login/membership WP plugins and I should be able to put together a solution with these. Thanks.

Try the plugin made by one of Ecwid users: http://www.memberwing.com/ : -)

Thanks for the suggestion Eugene. Do you know if it allows for importing of a list of members or do they need to be inputted manually?

I've been checking into the WP-Members plugin for this and have a similar question out at:

Anyway, I'm sure I'll come up with a solution to this at some point.

Thanks

Bill
