Tax Not Calculating Properly

My storefront is

Tax is not calculating properly on orders. There is no rhyme or reason to the amount of tax being calculated, even though it shows 5% and 8%, the amounts do not make any sense.

Depending on the product, the applied tax to each product will either be HST (includes GST and PST), or for some items like books there is only GST.

Each item has been checked to verify that the correct tax is being applied.
I have also checked that tax should be applied to shipping costs.

CURRENTLY when an order is placed for example:

2 books @ 9.99 each for a subtotal of $19.98 with a shipping cost of $5...

The order shows:
2 books $19.98
Shipping $5.00
Tax $1.25
Total $26.23

However, the order SHOULD be calculated as follows:

2 books $19.98 + 5% GST = $20.98
Shipping $5 + 13% HST = $5.65
TOTAL = $26.63

I have added some reference images of orders that were placed to help clarify...

I know that $0.40 might seem insignificantly small, but this is just one order. Sometimes the different between what is calculated and what the actual amount should be is much greater. Also, when you multiply 40 cents by many many orders it adds up quickly.

Please help!!!! I would love to eventually upgrade my account to have more items, but if Ecwid can't calculate tax properly it's useless.

Hello, Ashley.

Thank you for contacting Ecwid customer care.

Sorry, you faced this. Let me explain how tax works in Ecwid.

In your example you are using the order #48, where the product of Manitoulin Colouring Book. Let's get in the tax settings for this product.

As you see the tax under name HST 5% is applied. If we go to observe the configuration of this tax, we'll see, that it 5% on subtotal and shipping.

This means, that taxes ware applied to 19.98$ + 5% = 24.98$. So, the taxes are fine, they obey the settings.

Though, the problem still persists: you need Ecwid to apply different tax to shipping and to subtotal.

Although, there is no such built-in functionality in Ecwid's tax functions, there are a couple of ways to work this around.

For example, you can work this around with the help of the feature, called Handling Fee —

This feature is available on Venture plan and higher.

You can set a handling fee and it will be charged per order. It can be named as you wish, "Shipping TAX", for example.

For the Canada post method, you can adjust the markup, increase it. Right now, you have 1$. Screenshot:

Hope, this clarifies the tax thing. Please, also see how taxes work in general in Ecwid in a more general way in this article:
