You can learn about Javascript API in our knowledge base here: http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/41188517/JavaScript%20API

Code:
I manage to get it working on the product details page but still not in the categories.
"Call for price" script has been developed for displaying "Call of price" text and hiding the price on the product detailed page only. If you don't want to show products prices at all and want to use Ecwid as a catalog of products you can use the solution, which is described in knowledge base here: http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/27231233/...duct%20catalog

Currently you can use one of workarounds, which described in this post: http://www.ecwid.com/forums/showthread.php?t=582
It's now February 2013 - is there any reason why "Call for Price" has not been included in Ecwid updates? If you search the threads this issue goes back YEARS. Come on guys, is it really that hard to add the option?

It's not har if it was the only option to add, however, our to-do list is pretty much loaded up with requests: http://ideas.ecwid.com/forums/22031-...id/filters/top As you may see, the idea you ask for is not quite the most asked, so we cannot deceive other voters and put this one in front of what they ask for.

If this information is now outdated, then what is the current way to do this for select products? Most of the products in the store that I manage have prices (100+). However, about 20 of them need to say "Call for Pricing" and not allow the customer to check out.

Hello,

In order to achieve what you want you need to develop special script using our Javascript API which will check the product details page and add required text ("Call for Price" for instance), if the product has zero price and is out of stock. The same script can hide zero price and Out of stock elements, when needed. This solution requires programming skills though. In case you need assistance with such modification, I suggest you contacting our friends at Qualiteam who provide such services (sales@qtmsoft.com).
