Default "Contact us" or "Call for pricing" Option

We would like to be able to add a "Contact us for price" for some products. We have a client with a travel site and some of the tours do not have a fixed price (it depends on the itinerary) so the client will need to contact us for a price.

Ideally we would still like them to be able to go through the checkout so we have their contact details.

We would only need this for selected tours.

Is there a workaround we could employ to do this??

Two ways:

Method 1

Set the product price to "0.00" and at the end of the product price add the following "A customer representative will call you concerning the price".

So say you have a tour called Grand Tour Of Africa, its name would be "Grand Tour Of Africa (One of our customer representatives will call you concerning the final price).

Add an explanation in the product description to why the price is set to zero.

Alternatively.

Upload a digital brochure detailing the tour and get the customer to add the brochure to their shopping bag (set the cost to 0.00).

They then can download the item after they have been through the checkout.

You will have to ensure that you have enabled a checkout method that will allow a "total" of 0.00, such as phone ordering.

You will also have to add a comment in the product description to say choose phone ordering if the value of your basket is zero.

Although it might be possible to add a custom comment at the checkout stage - see this post: http://kb.ecwid.com/How-to-show-spec...d-page-is-open

The other solution:

If the number of such products is limited, it's possible to add a custom JS code, that will hide the "Add to cart" button and replace it with the "Call for quote" text.
However it will still be possible to add them to a bag using drag-n-drop.

Thanks for your comment Eugene. Custom JS sounds like it could work for us as the majority of our tours have prices. Where would this custom JS be added??

Appreciate your help with this.

I question would people actually call. Have you considered using product options for the item.

Request call back radio buttons - each radio button has a time slot
Text box with telephone number

There seems to be a number of ways of doing this. The main issue for us is how to remove the price for just selected tours ie. if you remove the price div in the css you will remove the price for all tours.

How can we implement this without impacting all tours.

Hi again Eugene,
First, you need a raise.
Second, this is working great for me because I wasn't going to add our transmission kits due to being such a customized kit, but we do have a request a quote on our website that I thought would be a great fit with the above conversation, so I implemented it. But my add to bag button keeps dissappearing on me. I refreshed ten times, close the browser window, came back, still wasn't there, got distracted and then all of a sudden it showed back up. I'm using IE8 in Vista. I'm working on this product so this link might change but it's here if you would be so kind as to test it to see if it dissapears after you "buy" it and go back to shopping for it again. http://www.americanpowertrain.com/ca...product=430184
(ignore any presently missing images.....this is just a test)

I just checked Firefox copying and pasting link and the button is gone there too.

Hmm, the "Call for price" mod works in the following way:

- if a product is in the "call for price" list, the mod hides the price and the "add to cart" button, so it isn't possible to add it to a bag. Instead of the "Add to cart" button the "Call for price"(or similar) text is shown.

So if you don't see the "Add to cart" button, it means that the mod works correctly and you need a slightly other mod.
How do you want it to work?

Okay. I'll just take out the call for price (request a quote, in my case) and go back to just doing a zero dollar. I didn't realize the button would disappear. But the strange thing is that I actually used the quote text fields and the buy now button was there and sent myself the "request a quote" order and it came through my email just fine but then the button dissappeared. Strange!
