Question

Having Attributes and Options be part of a Product Type.

I am wondering why Attributes and Options (all custom fields) aren't available in setting up Product Types? Especially because the upload field options are so limited? Is this something that can be done?
Ideally, I'd like to take an existing product set up and take all settings and apply them to like products. Having to enter Height and Width options repeatedly for over 500 products has proved very tedious.

Hello,

‘Product Options’ and ‘Product Types’ which include product attributes are separate features in Ecwid. Product Options enable your customers to choose some properties of an item like color, size, shape, whereas Product Types are mostly useful for merchants and help them to create the similar product characteristics for items that possess the same attributes.

To make a set of product options reusable for multiple items, as you’ve suggested, sounds like a nice-to-have feature for those merchants, who sell many products with similar options. We would really appreciate, if you share your suggestion in our Ideas Base.

Though, there isn’t any built-in feature that enables you to copy a set of options from one product to another yet, you can consider a couple of workarounds.

You can duplicate any existing product and a new product with the same product options will be created. Duplication button is available on Product Editor pages in System Settings > Catalog > Products.

In case you need to set up product options for many already existing products at once, you can use Ecwid Import-Export tool.

You can prepare a CSV file in the X-cart Format, which supports Product Options import, and upload this file in your Ecwid Control Panel > Catalog > Import Products > X-cart tab. For better understanding, how Ecwid CSV file should be formatted, you can refer to the following article http://help.ecwid.com/customer/porta...rting-products. To see how the X-cart CSV format is organized, download the attached sample from the following article
http://help.ecwid.com/customer/porta...and%C2%A0ecwid.

Also if you’re using product variations, there exists a possibility to import data via standard Ecwid import procedure for product variations with their own SKU numbers. For that you will need to specify variations SKUs in the SKU column of import CSV file - the data you put in the import file's line will automatically update the corresponding variation in your store. This way you can update weight, image, price and quantity of a variation via CSV import.
