Image Folder

I'm setting a new Ecwid account that has been exported from VirtueMart. The name of the product image is in a data field. How can can I point Ecwid to the folder (URL) where the images are hosted?

Thanks,

Joe

If I understand you properly, you want to store product images on the external server. However, Ecwid usually stores all information about stores on our Secure Amazon servers that allows us to guarantee that all of your data are safe. And, therefore, it is not possible to host product images on the separate server. Could you explain why you don't want to upload images to Ecwid?

In case, if you don't want to do this manually, I suggest you to do this, using our import/export functionality, that allows to update all products and transfer product images from external server to Ecwid. Please, refer to this article for details: http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/61320633/...ing%20products

If any assitance with this will require, please, feel free to ask.

Yes, I will be using the Import/Export function. There are over 1,000 items, so I'd rather not do it manually.

Hosting the images at ecwid would be great. How do I do that?

Can I do FTP to my ecwid account? Please advise.

Thanks,

Joe

You don't need to upload your product images to our servers manually. All images will be uploaded automatically during products import, if they are available by direct link. Could you tell me where product images are stored now?

Here's an example of an existing image link:
http://www.thayerproducts.com/compon...036ef1fcc8.png

The data I've exported does not have the full URL, just the image name.

Yes, this image link inserted in "Image URL" import file field will allow you to successfully transfer the product image to our server.

Since the image field in the .csv file only has the file name is there another place the URL can be inserted?

Or is there another way to move the images to ecwid?

Thanks,

Joe

The import is exactly the tool you need, you don't really need anything else. If your CSV file lists exactly the file names (like 'something.jpg' without the '/some/directoty/path/' before it), then you would just need to prepend each filename with this string:
Code:
http://www.thayerproducts.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/
This will effectively result in the CSV file filled with image URLs, and Ecwid will import those. If you need further help with that, please, let us see the CSV file itself you are trying to work with.

Here's a link to the file I would like to use:
http://cloudserve.info/files/Q3_2012_products.xls

And here's the original file I exported:
http://cloudserve.info/files/Q3_2012...preadsheet.xls

What method should I use to ad the string to the file names?

Thank-you for your help.

Joe

OK, I think I can get the string inserted in Excel. I'll test some imports now. If I have any other questions I'll make another post.

Thanks,

Joe
