How to add existing store items to Ecwid (Virtuemart 2)

I have an existing on-line store with Joomla 2.5 and Virtuemart 2. I would like to import all these items to Ecwid without having to do it manually. I would hate to have to put allll these items up but it is the only want to keep my site from crashing when I advertise it on social media.

I have considered using Ecwid instead of Virtuemart but my template is for VM and I just got it 2 months ago. http://www.herpanache.com/beta

You need to export the products from your Virtuemart and import them into Ecwid.

Hi,

Sorry for keeping you waiting.

It looks like this template is initially designed for virtuemart, it may require virtuemart to be installed as well. Please, contact the authors of this template to ask if you can use it without virtuemart.

Basically, you can embed Ecwid into any site/blog that allows inserting Javascript/HTML code. At that you keep your current site, with all the pages, content and theme, insert Ecwid on one of the pages and use it as an integral part of the site. If you're using Joomla CMS for your web-site, you can install a ready Ecwid plugin: http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/15853297/Joomla

So technically you can put Ecwid within the template that's used at http://www.herpanache.com right now. And Ecwid itself can be adapted to the layout of your site: you can change colors, fonts, buttons, etc. using CSS: http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/15853257/CSS%20Faq

Please, mind, however Ecwid will be embedded on one page, hence if you keep the current template the categories navigation menu will no longer lead to store categories pages. As a way to work this around, if it's possible to customize the template's horizontal menu you could insert Ecwid's categories links there, thus the menu items will open the corresponding Ecwid categories.

One more thing to note, a migration of a site or a store is always risky in terms of keeping your traffic and conversion rates. In most cases it is connected with losing traffic unless you fully map your old URLs with new ones and, in general, carefully funnel the traffic to the new place. In other words, if there were affiliate banners, ads, links leading to our previous store pages and that you used to attract visitors to your store, you should make sure that all they direct to the working store pages. If you did place links to your store on external sites, you can set up a redirect from the old URLs to the new ones. It can be done with help of a Joomla plugin, for ex. http://extensions.joomla.org/search?q=301+redirect
