Please let me share with you a few SEO practices that you can use to improve your SEO results.

Even though every Ecwid store is automatically indexed by search engines, there are additional steps that you can take to improve your store SEO.

Firstly, we have an option to form metadata based on a product name and description. Using this option, you can create metadata for each product presented in your store.

Optimizing you store content and promoting your links in social pages, blogs, forums, etc. are able to drastically improve your store position in search engines. Affiliate marketing, advertising, and answer sites are also proved to be effective in SEO.

Moreover, it's worth to note that Ecwid is an embeddable solution that allows adding your store to almost any website. As a result, an ability to implement those practices are strongly intertwined with a website where you add your Ecwid store.

And to learn more about different techniques, please check these useful articles:
I hope this helps.
To be quite honest, I have not paid for any SEO whatsoever. All I have focused on was On Site Optimization via the ecwid product edit screen under meta tags/search engine. I also have been using Google Search console, formerly Webmaster Tools to crawl my site every single day and submit to Google again on a daily basis. Any time a change is made, I will resubmit to Google for indexing.

Also, I do have a tumblr blog and post articles here and there linking to my site with anchor text. For example in the middle of the article, I will have the keywords I would like to rank for and link that text to my site or particular page on my site. For example, it will state "niche targeted instagram marketing" and link to my site. Eg: Niche Targeted Instagram Marketing
I guess you can consider this organic SEO in some way.. Even though I never actually payed anyone for it.

Also, please note that last week, my ranking dropped very drastically and I figured out that someone evil out there (a competitor possibly) did a negative SEO attack on my site. This exists people.. I found via Google Search Console that there were some very spammy sites linking to my business site out of nowhere. I then took the necessary steps to have Google disavow these links... Within 2 hours, I was back to the first page, and not only was I on the first page, but I was actually # 1 Organically, Right after the ads.

I hope this helps.

P.S. I also used the sitemap generator and hosted the sitemap on Amazon Cloud S3 Storage. Then I linked that storage address to Google Search Console, verified, and had the sitemap added. Basically, the sitemap hosted on Amazon S3, is of my domain, viraltrendsmedia.com

It's kind of tricky but once you get the hang of it, expect tons of new leads on a daily basis. Cheers

I have hosting access for my other standalone sites.

Is there a way to add a sitemap to GMT for my Ecwid Starter site using my hosting or is Amazon route the only option?

I'm really not sure to be honest. This was the suggestion made to me by Ecwid support so I ran with it. I'm not sure if hosting it anywhere else will have the same effect. I'd recommend just to use Amazon S3.. it's free... hey that rhymed! lol

Hi
Can we expect a feature where a sitemap is generated in ecwid panel itself and there is no need for it to be created/uploaded in the server or by using Amazon services as you mentioned in the post.

I followed John R Perry's guide and all went well until I entered the sitemap on the search console. I got 26 errors:

URL not allowed
This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location.

and the Example Errors all listed my regular website address pages like this:
http://www.mywebsitepage.com

Please advise.

OK, I checked a re-checked everything. I was wondering if I missed something. But, if you got the same response, somethin must have changed since the last person reported it worked.

Originally, last week, when I tried to submit my site map from the URL generated by John's app, I got an error about html sitemaps. I consulted Support explaining the app does not help if it generates a site map that Google won't accept. Support was unable to come up with an answer, so they emailed John (with a cc to me), but I haven't heard back from Support or John. I figure with the holidays I'd give it until the beginning of this week before I contact Support again about the email. In the meantime I figured I would try this as a couple of members reported success, but that was a few months ago. The last entry on this thread reporting success with this method was on October 11th. I wonder if Google changed something that we are getting that error message now?

I will post here whatever I hear back.

Exclamation

Anybody have anything new on this, specifically how to get the sitemap accepted at Google Webmaster's Search Console. Support has written to the app developer twice, but he has not responded. That can't be good.

Eventually, Google did index some of my Ecwid site, but not through the Google Webmaster Tools Search Console. There, it just continued to say the format of the sitemap was html and not an accepted sitemap format.

I decided to move my site from Ecwid to BigCommerce (www.hobbygreenhousegrowers.com) where I have had another ecommerce site for 2 years(www.moonshadowsfarm.com). The reason I signed up for Ecwid was the widget feature. I wanted to list this store as part of my forum. Now, I am linking from my forum to the BigCommerce site. All in all, I feel I wasted my $150 on the Venture plan. Don't get me wrong, I like Ecwid..very easy to use...versatile.....but, not a good site for SEO, IMO.

Hello James,

This is Stacy from Ecwid Customer Care team.

Thank you for your feedback! It is much appreciated. I'm very sorry to hear that you are considering to go.

The thing is that Ecwid is 100% AJAX application, meaning that all the store content is delivered to visitor's web browser by means of Javascript. Javascript can be executed by crawlers, which in practical terms means that Ecwid store pages are now indexed like any regular HTML page (i.e. no additional action is required). So, Ecwid itself is absolutely indexable. I'm very sorry, I can not say how long it'll take to index all the store pages. Only Google knows it.

I would recommend you to check what could go wrong with your site via Google Webmaster Tools. Add your site there, verify it and then you will be able to see what blocks the indexation.

As for the sitemap. You may want to create a separate sitemap for your site and for your store. In this case, you can use Sitemap generator app: generate the sitemap for your store and upload the file to any hosting to get the direct link to this sitemap. Then, you can add links to both sitemaps to your robots.txt file.

Also, here you can find some useful information about webmaster tools:

1) How to Use Google Webmaster Tools to Maximize Your SEO Campaign
2) How to use Google Webmaster Tools/Search Console

Also, I’d like to advise you this article about some measures that in most cases lead to better SEO.

I really hope it will help!
