Joomla can remove the <script> code from article content for security reasons. This is why thumbnail and ‘Add to bag’ button doesn’t show when you place product with ‘HTML code’.

In order to add script code in article, like in your case you should set up your WISIWIG editor, which you use for articles creation in such way, that it allows to add scripts there. Once you change editor settings that it will not remove script code and add HTML code again, product widget will show thumbnail and “Add to Bag” button
