Online to Offline: Now Accept Payments Anywhere with iZettle and EcwidSep 17, 2015 by Jesse Ness,
It used to be that if you had an online store, it existed in complete isolation from your physical, offline store. And if you ran a physical store, there was no way to connect it with your online presence.
With our new payment integration with iZettle, you can finally bring your online store to the real world.
This means no juggling with multiple platforms or spending thousands on expensive POS systems. Just plug iZettle into Ecwid and start accepting credit/debit card payments from customers
It’s just one more step in our mission to help you sell from anywhere in the world — your website, Facebook, and now, even a physical store.
Let’s take a better look at how the Ecwid + iZettle integration works and how it can help you sell more.
How Does iZettle Work?
iZettle is Europe’s leading mobile payments provider. It essentially consists of smartphone/tablet app and a card reader. The card reader includes a keypad and plugs into the smartphone. When you want to accept a payment, all you need is to:
1. Open the iZettle app.
2. Select the product or payment amount.
3. Insert the customer’s credit/debit card into the card reader.
4. Enter the card PIN through the keypad.
iZettle works with both chip and magstripe cards and supports nearly every major card provider. You can also choose between two card readers:
1. Card Reader Lite
- Connects via headphone jack
- Complies with latest security requirements, including PCI PTS
- Free for businesses.
2. Card Reader Pro Contactless
- Connects via Bluetooth
- Works with ApplePay and contactless payments on iOS
- Starts as low as EUR 79.
But accepting payments isn’t the only reason to use iZettle — the app also helps you organize your store’s products, run daily reports, and manage your staff.

How iZettle Works with Ecwid?
Ecwid has partnered with iZettle to integrate it into the Ecwid app. This means that once you connect iZettle to Ecwid, you can accept offline credit/debit cards payments for products from your Ecwid catalog. Inventory levels in Ecwid online store are automatically adjusted as you sell offline so your do not have to worry about selling one product twice.
Note: iZettle works with Ecwid Mobile app for iOS only.
The process to start selling is simple:
1. Download the Ecwid mobile app from the App Store.
2. Go to settings in the Ecwid app and connect to iZettle.
3. Choose one of the two card readers from iZettle.
4. Plug in the card reader and start accepting payments anywhere.
Keep in mind that iZettle only works with Ecwid’s paid plan. If you’re on the free plan, you will need to upgrade to at least the Venture plan ($15/month) to use iZettle.
The good news is that you can get the Venture plan for practically free when you
Note: If you want to accept contactless payments through ApplePay, you’ll need to purchase the iZettle Contactless Pro card reader. It retails for just EUR 79 and will make accepting payments a breeze.
How Much Does it Cost?
For a small business, a traditional POS system is a big expense. The cost for the hardware alone runs into thousands of dollars, and the monthly fees can add up to over $100/month. Throw in customer service costs and you’re looking at an outlay of over $1,000 to setup a POS system.
Clearly, not the most affordable of solutions.
In contrast, starting with iZettle is completely free. The basic Card Reader Lite is free of cost, and you only pay a small cut (2.75%) for each transaction. There is also no
For businesses that process a small number of orders, this can mean thousands of dollars in savings.
Best of all, the more you sell, the lower the transaction charges. You start off paying iZettle 2.75% of each transaction, but as your sales increase, the charge goes down to as low as 1.5%.
For example, in the UK, iZettle’s charges are as follows:
- 2.75% if monthly sales are under £2,000
- 1.92% if monthly sales are under £5,000
- 1.5% for sales over £15,000/month.
This means that if you sell over £15,000 worth of products every month, you’ll have to pay just £1.5 for every £100 worth of goods sold.
Thanks to the zero starting costs, this makes iZettle highly
