How to Claim a Website on Pinterest

9 min read

Ever heard of verifying your website on Pinterest? Everyone seems to be yapping about it and maybe it’s starting to seem like you’re missing out on something. You might be wondering what all the fuss is about. Well, to put it simply, verifying or claiming your website on Pinterest is the most successful social marketing tool at your disposal today. Yes, you heard us. Ecommerce marketing’s hottest platform isn’t Facebook. It’s not Instagram. It’s not even LinkedIn!

If you’re looking to drive more traffic to your website and optimize your Pinterest profile (especially as a small business), then you really need to get on the Pinterest train. With more than 430 million users each month, Pinterest has become the most visited source of content and inspiration for pinners. It is now the most engaging social platform for driving traffic to blogs and websites. Additionally, claiming your website on Pinterest gives you access to more beneficial business features.

Now, you might be wondering why you’re just getting wind of this sweet news about Pinterest. But it’s not too late to make the platform work for you. In this post, you’ll find out how using Pinterest can give your business the boost it needs right now. You’ll also learn how to claim your website on Pinterest, and the ins and outs of making that happen.

Note: To verify your website on Pinterest is the same as claiming your website on Pinterest. The difference is just in the fancy wording, so don’t get it confused.

Why is it Important to Claim a Website on Pinterest?

It’s simple; if you want to bring more customers over to your website or increase your blog’s audience, then you should be taking Pinterest seriously. Read on for finer details on how that works.

If you claim your website on Pinterest, they’ll display your full website URL boldly at the top of your Pinterest profile. This allows other pinners that are following you to learn more about you and your business. They can click on your URL and get directed instantly to your website, straight from Pinterest.

But more importantly, claiming your website on Pinterest is a very efficient way to get access to insightful analytics for all the Pins you publish from your site and those created by other users from your site. It lets people know where they can find more of your content. This way, you can see your top-performing Pins or content and which among these are driving the most traffic to your blog or website.

The insights you glean from these analytics can help you tailor your marketing efforts toward creating a more successful blog or business. Here are other benefits you enjoy by claiming your website on Pinterest:

  • Pins that are saved from your website will have your profile picture next to them, including those created by other users. And they all come along with your website metadata.
  • You also gain access to using ads on Pinterest, which will help you promote your website pins
  • You can enable the rich pins feature to add more information and a CTA (call to action) to your pins
  • You’ll get early access to new and upcoming tools and features on Pinterest

How to Claim Your Website on Pinterest

Now that you’ve learned the importance of verifying your website on Pinterest, it’s time you learned how to actually get it done. One important thing to note is that you need a Pinterest Business Account to get started.

While it may sound quite techy, you’re going to need no more than 5-10 minutes to claim your website on Pinterest! Yes, the process is simple, but it’s not like the other social networks, where you can simply copy and paste your website URL on your profile.

On Pinterest, the process is a little bit more intensive (you’ll need to upload an HTML file to your website or add a meta tag to your header), but still easy to do. Assuming your website is hosted by WordPress or Squarespace (or a similar platform), and you’ve already set up your Pinterest Business Account, you can follow these steps to claim your website:

  1. Log into your Pinterest Business Account on a desktop browser and click the three dots located at the top right-hand corner
  2. Select settings from the drop down menu under your profile picture
  3. Go to Claim Website from the list and enter your website URL and click on “Claim Website”
  4. Once you click on “Claim Website”, you`ll see an option to either “Add HTML tag” or Upload HTML file”. If your website is hosted by WordPress or Squarespace, you can go with the “Add HTML tag” option, as this is easier and less techy. Depending on your domain host, you can find more information on which option is better for you.
  5. Important: You should see a new window showing a series of numbers and letters pop up. That’s your meta tag. Copy it and paste it somewhere for future reference. Before clicking next on Pinterest, go to the back of your website, click on Settings>Advanced>Code Injection, then paste the meta tag into the header section. For WordPress, make sure the Insert Headers and Footers plugin is already installed and activated. Then go to Settings > Insert Headers and Footers>Header Script. Paste the HTML tag in the “Header Script” section.
  6. Now, go back to the Pinterest window, select next and submit. You will be redirected to your Pinterest profile page.
  7. Refresh the page and you`ll see a green check next to your website URL. The claim button will also change to “Unclaim”, indicating that your website has been successfully verified.

If and when you’ve done all the above, congratulations! You’ve just set up your Pinterest profile for optimal results and marketing strategy. According to Pinterest, it will not take more than 24 hours to get your account connected and fully up and running. However, in most cases, after a few hours, you’ll receive a confirmation email, notifying you that the process has been completed.

Ecommerce that has your back

So simple to use – even my most technophobic clients can manage. Easy to install, quick to set up. Light years ahead of other shop plugins.
I’m so impressed I’ve recommended it to my website clients and am now using it for my own store along with four others for which I webmaster. Beautiful coding, excellent top-notch support, great documentation, fantastic how-to videos. Thank you so much Ecwid, you rock!
I’ve used Ecwid and I love the platform itself. Everything is so simplified it’s insane. I love how you have different options to choose shipping carriers, to be able to put in so many different variants. It’s a pretty open e-commerce gateway.
Easy to use, affordable (and a free option if starting off). Looks professional, many templates to select from. The App is my favorite feature as I can manage my store right from my phone. Highly recommended 👌👍
I like that Ecwid was easy to start and to use. Even for a person like me, without any technical background. Very well written help articles. And the support team is the best for my opinion.
For everything it has to offer, ECWID is incredibly easy to set up. Highly recommend! I did a lot of research and tried about 3 other competitors. Just try ECWID and you'll be online in no time.
