Infographic: Halloween By The NumbersOct 28, 2016 by Sabrina Fenster, The Shelf
Of course with everyone focused on the major holidays approaching towards the end of the year, Halloween, quite often surprises all of us.
But it is a true monster of a retail holiday, with over $8.4 billion being spent this year (up $1.5 billion from last year)… all in the name of getting dressed up!
The majority of the spend falls into four main categories: costumes (at $3.1B), candy (at $2.5B), decorations (at $2.4B), and greeting cards (at $390M).
Costumes have reigned supreme 15 consecutive years. As it’s not just the kids getting in on the costume action, adults are doing throwbacks to their younger years and some people are even going as far as dressing their pets up (us included)!
The majority of these purchases occur at discount stores. And as far as inspiration goes, most people’s costume inspo comes from Pinterest. Last year alone there were over 27 million Pins that were Halloween related.
Anywho, we don’t want to give away all the details… check out this infographic by The Shelf to learn everything else you’d ever want to know about Halloween!
