Last time you heard from us, we wrote about the things we released in February. Remember? February was good.

But here we are in April, so let’s look at all the changes we made to Ecwid in the month since then. Below are the features and improvements that Ecwid team have been working on since March:

New search widget

We released a new search widget that’s vastly improved over the previous one. The old search widget was created 6 years ago, doesn’t adapt to a site’s theme, and doesn’t look good in narrow spaces.

In the new search widget, we fixed these issues and made it even cooler! It is fully adaptive, automatically fits in its parent section, and looks great with any site’s theme.

Search tool

If you use Ecwid on Wix or Weebly, the new search widget is already available to you. You can add it to your storefront using the app settings in your Wix or Weebly site administration panel.

If you use WordPress, Joomla or Drupal, stay tuned — we will soon update our plugins so that you will be able to use the new widget.

If your site is running on another CMS, or is custom-made, you can add the new search widget to your site using the widget integration code:

  • Paste your store ID in the form in this article.
  • Copy the code that it generates.
  • On your site, add the code to the webpage where you want the widget to appear.

New App Market design

We released a brand new version of the Ecwid App Market. It’s accessible from our website ecwid.com/apps (no login required) and through your Control Panel (the “Apps” menu). The improved App Market boasts a new clean design, handy navigation, and new app icons. Everything was improved for you to find and install the right apps for improving your store’s operations.

We also added a new “Collections” section to the App Market — it contains collections of apps dedicated to specific use cases. The first collection — “Getting Started With Your Ecwid Store” is already available. Check it out if you are just starting out building your online store: ecwid.com/apps/gettingstarted. More collections are on the way soon.

New Apps in the App Market

The Ecwid AppMarket got four new applications in March. Why don’t you give them a try?

  • ShipStation is a service that connects your store with the shipping service you use, providing easier order fulfilment for you and your customers.
  • Social Boost allows you to reward visitors for following your social media profiles, sharing your products or re-posting your messages on social networks.
  • Privy empowers your store with popups and offers for first time visitors or those who are going to click away from your shop. This helps you connect with your customers and prevent cart abandonment in the store.
  • Brevi is an app that you can use to manage Facebook ad campaigns to promote your products on Facebook.

Custom Shipping API

This update is for the developers who create apps for the Ecwid App Market. The new Custom Shipping API in Ecwid allows a developer to create a custom shipping method in an Ecwid store.

Ecwid Shipping API

With this API, it’s now possible to add unsupported shipping carriers to Ecwid in a form of applications for the Ecwid App Market. Such an app will automatically calculate shipping rates at checkout and save the shipping option data in the order details. This API can also be used if a store has very complex shipping rules that cannot be set up natively in Ecwid. With the help of professional developer, the merchant can customize the way it calculates shipping however they like.

Updates under the hood: product listing loading and CSV import got faster

Every time you open a category with products, Ecwid sends a request to get list of products from the database. We greatly optimized this request and now it is twice as fast, so customers load “List of products” pages much faster. The result is especially noticeable in stores with 500+ items in a single category.

Do you use CSV files to import or update your products? We greatly sped up the import tool to make this routine more convenient for you. With big CSV files (about 20,000 products and more), it’s now up to 5 times faster! In addition, we made the import a bit more informative and user-friendly: when you import a CSV file and Ecwid skips some items (for example because of missing SKU or a typo in some line), it now shows the exact numbers of skipped lines so you can find the problem lines in your CSV file and correct them.

Another big update in Ecwid translations

With the help of contributors to Ecwid translations, we improved Dutch, Arabian, Czech, French, Bulgarian, German, Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Danish, Turkish, Serbian, Norwegian, Japanese, Finnish, Swedish, Thai, Hungarian, Greek, Chinese (traditional), Chinese (simplified), Slovenian, Lithuanian, Vietnamese, Albanian, Italian, Roumanian, Latvian, Georgian, Croatian, Slovak, Portuguese and Estonian translations.
