hi all

i want to put a link on facebook to my product so as it shows the pic and description, but cant work it out

anyone?

Ecwid is an AJAX application, it means that products, categories and all the other content of your store is delivered to a visitor dynamically using JavaScript. This allows you to easily use your Ecwid storefront on numerous web sites, blogs and social networks simultaneously, never care of system upgrades or other boring technical stuff and deliver your store to your clients faster than other shopping carts can.

When you share your product link, Facebook requests the content of the page to be shared and surrounds the placed link with downloaded text and images. However Facebook cannot parse JavaScript code which represents the product on that page and parses the other parts of the page instead. That is why Facebook could not add the appropriate description and photo to the link you tried to share.

This can be easily resolved and there are two ways to do it. Which one you use depends on where you want a shared product link to be placed - on your personal Facebook page or on any other Facebook page.

1. As you probably know the easiest way to share some content on your personal page in Facebook is to use a related ‘like’ button. Such button can be displayed on an Ecwid product page if the ‘Show like buttons’ option is enabled in your Ecwid Control Panel (System Settings / Social Tools / Like Button). When it is enabled, sharing a product URL on your personal Facebook page is as simple as clicking the ‘Like’ button on a product page inside your Ecwid store. Please notice that the built-in ‘Like Buttons’ functionality is available for Silver plan accounts only. Thus you need to upgrade to be able to use it.

2. The method above cannot be used if you want to share a product link on another Facebook page. For being able to do it you can use the following simple solution.
Instead of an actual product details page address use the following one for placing in Facebook:
http://app.ecwid.com/sharer?ownerid=<store ID>&productid=<product ID>

where <store ID> should be replaced with your Ecwid store ID, which can be found in your Ecwid Control Panel (http://kb.ecwid.com/w/page/15853282/...)

and <product ID> should be replaced with the ID of the product you want to share. The following document describes how a product ID can be found:

When you share such URL, the Facebook will request a special page from Ecwid that contains all the necessary data about the product in the format Facebook understands, so the link will be accompanied with the right description and picture of your product.

Hi! I worked around this issue by liking a product with my personal profile and then sharing it as a page, but it redirects to the product page on the main store outside of Facebook. Is there any way of sharing the actual facebook store on a facebook page? The main point of the FB app is so that people won't need to leave FB to shop, but the tab is quite hidden and it would be nice to point people in its direction through their feed, without it just being an ugly link with no thumbnail.

Thanks for your help guys.
I put the store on fb and then 'shared' particular products and then was able to showcase each item on my wall.

I figured putting the shop on fb as well would only add to the ease of shopping for customers!

The Facebook 'Like' buttons built into Ecwid allow a visitor to easily share a link to a product from your shop on their personal page in Facebook. A product can be liked in any storefront, 'Like' buttons works in a Facebook application as well as in all the other place in the web where your product catalog is displayed. All 'likes' of a product across all your possible storefronts are summed up - the number of likes for a particular product in the Facebook store and on your site is always in sync. What is also important, a visitor can like a product in your Ecwid store only once regardless where a product page is opened.

Where a shared link actually points to depends on where the corresponding 'Like' button was clicked: if a Like button was clicked on the site, then the link in the post on your Facebook wall will point to the shop on the site, but if a visitor hits the button on a product page inside the Facebook application then a shared link will refer exactly to that product page inside FB. So please try to 'like' your product from your Facebook store - this way the links in the Like posts will point to Facebook store and your customers will never have to leave Facebook.

If, however, you are sure that you tried to like your products in your Facebook store, but those links point to the shop on your site, then please provide us with a link to the product details page you want to share and we'll investigate it.

It works fine in FB to show the details and the product image, but when I click on the link via FB (or just paste the URL in my browser) it just takes me to my home page.

Any thoughts on why it's not going directly to the product?

Hello,

The issue is caused by the way how your store is installed on your site.
When you open the mentioned link (app.ecwid.com/sharer?ownerid=106142&productid=9036567) in your browser or click it on a Facebook page, Ecwid tries to redirect you to the product #9036567 page. In order to do it, Ecwid gets your store URL and adds an extra part to it so the Ecwid product browser will know which product should be displayed. In your case, the store URL is www.manimalwear.com and the URL's store-related part is

?ecwid:mode=product&ecwid:product=9036567#ecwid:mode=product&product=9036567

As a result, the full URL is:
http://www.manimalwear.com/?ecwid:mo...

This URL opens the home page because your store is actually installed in sub-pages like:
http://www.manimalwear.com/men
http://www.manimalwear.com/women
and so on.

The product browser doesn't exist on the page 'www.manimalwear.com', so it doesn't display the product details.

You can consider a workaround - using the 'fb-sharer' application instead of the 'sharer' and including exact pages URLs into the sharer's link like this:

In order to do it please follow this instruction:
1. Get the URL to your product page. Shorten it using http://goo.gl/
2. Then get your Store ID and Product ID (you can get it from the product URL).

replace STOREID, PRODUCTID and URL with real values.

Is the FB-Sharer app currently working? A couple of weeks ago I successfully posted product links to my fb wall, but now I can't get it to work. HELP?

Hello,

The sharer links work. In your case, the issue is caused by wrong product ID in your link. You've set product ID as 251458316228, but there is no such product in your store:

Thanks! For some reason my url sometimes shows app id instead of product id when i view products through the fb store app. I can view the product id in the back-end through my ecwid control panel, but is there an easier way to see product id in the front-end (fb store)?
