Question Acceptable file extensions for products?

I've been trying to put my mp3 (Actually, they're m4a's) files in my store, and they won't upload. They are all under the 100MB limit (the one I'm trying to upload now is 78.8MB). It's not working. Are there file extensions that are not compatible with the store or is it just taking forever because it's such a large file? Any suggestions?

And is there a bulk upload option for multiple large files?

Ecwid accepts any file extensions for your downloadable goods - there is no any limits on the file types.

As to this failed upload, in the Ecwid logs we see that the upload process was stopped from your side. Either the browser has stopped uploading, or your network connection was broken, or possibly some other program on your computer has interrupted the process.

Can you please provide more details on this matter?

- What browser do you use?
- Are you on a wireless internet connection (WiFi/3G/WiMAX)?
- Do you have any firewalls or internet security suites on your computer that could interrupt the network connections?
- What did you actually see when you first got this problem - an error, a blank screen, anything else?
- What happens if you retry this upload (preferably log out from the Ecwid control panel, log in again and start this file upload over)?

We need this information to investigate the reasons of your problem, please let us know.

As to batch file uploads: it is possible to upload a few files into one product (there is a [+] button in the file upload window), but unfortunately it is not possible yet to batch upload files for a few different products at once. We understand how important such functionality is, and we are discussing the ways to add it in the future versions.

I've been trying from both a PC and a Mac, so both internet explorer and safari. I'm not sure what the connection is on the PC, because it isn't mine, but the Mac is just connecting to a wireless network. I don't have anything on my Mac in the way of firewalls or security, but I'm not sure about the PC. I stopped the downloads because I wasn't sure if they were working because I didn't know how long the download is expected to take if it works properly. I've been making the files significantly smaller (about 30MB) and now I'm trying to upload one of the smaller ones. How long is this process expected to take? And would it work faster if I could connect to a higher-speed network?
Thanks for your time.

Thank you. So you thought that it takes too long and stopped the upload. Most possibly, the speed of your internet connnection (uplink, the speed of the upload channel) is low, and it just takes longer to upload large files.

Yes, uploading the smaller files should give some significant results like success or error. And yes, connecting to a higher speed network should definitely make your uploads faster.

How long does it normally take on an average speed connection to upload a file of that size? (30MB)

It highly depends on the type of the internet connection you have and on the uplink speed in your internet connection plan and on many other different factors, not always depending on you or Ecwid.

Typically, if you have a 1 megabit symmetric connection, the uplink speed is around 100 KB / sec, so that the 30 MB file will take about 240 seconds = 4 minutes to upload. But the speed actually may vary, but anyway the upload should finish in less than 10 minutes. If your upload goes past that mark and still goes on, most probably you should try looking for a faster internet connection.

The exact details of your connection plan can also be detailed in the support facility of your internet provider.
