Post Error querying PayPal: Currency is not supported

I am trying to follow the instructions for setting up PayPal Express on the Paypal site, and I have gone to my Paypal profile page and selected the API page then onto the Request API credentials page, then I selected the "Set up PayPal API credentials and permissions" page. I have tried both options
once the info is saved and test is selected - error message - Error querying PayPal: Currency is not supported.

Currency is set to South African rand ZAR

Help!!!

PayPal Express Checkout supports these currencies at this moment:

Quote:
Canadian Dollar, Euro, British Pound, U.S. Dollar, Japanese Yen, Australian Dollar, New Zealand Dollar, Swiss Franc, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar, Swedish Krona, Danish Krone, Polish Zloty, Norwegian Krone, Hungarian Forint, Czech Koruna, Israeli New Shekel, Mexican Peso, Brazilian Real, Malaysian Ringgit, Philippine Peso, New Taiwan Dollar, Thai Baht, Turkish Lira
So South African Rand isn't supported by PayPal Express Checkout, that's why you get this error message.

As a solution you can use PayPal Standard payment method also supported by Ecwid. It can automatically convert totals to US Dollars before sending a transaction to PayPal.

Hi,

At present Ecwid converts only to USD.
Ecwid allows selling in any currency you like, be it USD or rupee. You can choose a currency for your store in Ecwid control panel, System Settings -> General -> Formats&Units. However, you may be using payment processors or shipping services that don't support your currency. In that rate, your prices need to be converted to the currency supported by this payment/shipping. For that we added the conversion rate that you can define at 'Formats&Units' as well. On checkout the prices will be converted into USD according to this rate.
Allowing the conversion to different currencies is quite complicated feature for it would have to address that a) shipping and payment services may have different currencies, b) each currency has to have its own conversion rate, etc. Thus technically it would require implementing of automatic currency conversion, which isn't yet integrated in Ecwid unfortunately.
Please, feel free to vote for the idea to add this feature:
