when setting up the account for authorize.net it asks for this information...

API Login ID : Check
Transaction Key : check
MD5 Hash Value : ???? What is that? <<< this is the start of the problem. The authorize.net rep told me it is up to me if I wanted to use it or not as it was an "added security measure." So I went to my authorize.net put in a phrase and hit save and went to ecwid and typed the exact same phrase into ecwid. so if the md5 hash phrase was 21jumpstreet I put that into ecwid as well.

Hit transaction type as authorize and captive and then save.

I tried to put in a transaction with my card and it says "Transaction Failed" yet, over at authorize.net the payment really did go through and I had to void the transaction.

I hope that is detailed enough to explain the situation.
Please, see this article at Authorize.net on how to obtain the correct MD5 Hash value: https://support.authorize.net/authkb...

I have read this. but I am confused, as hell (LOL), as to how to convert my phrase to what is supposed to go into the ecwid portion.

Let me call them and see

Ok if this is what is needed.

The MD5 Hash Value, which is assigned by the merchant in the account's Settings.
The API Login ID (x_login).
The transaction ID number we assigned to the transaction (x_trans_id).
The amount of the charge (x_amount).

What do we then put into that space? Meaning, api login I can find... but trans id and charge have to come from ecwid no?

Do we leave that blank?

I am on the phone and they said if there is a way to check off the option as in make it void, then that would work as they wouldn't need the md5 has value. But they said clearing the field might not work because i.e. "it is still checking the value."

Very frustrating they are telling me to run a script and see what is being sent / accepted by the shopping cart. I am like I have no access to that besides my order numbers. They are like " that is the only way to do it." I am like " please get a manager."

Manager is on the phone now.

They are asking for the response string for the order. That will tell the error message that we are getting from the cart.

I think the best option will be to turn off the setting until issue can be resolved. Don't really need the MD5 Hash but it is an added security feature.

can anything be done about this? I have submitted it to a bug tracker and the issue is major.
